Today is International Women’s Day (IWD), which is celebrated annually on 8 March. The day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911. This is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for #IWD2020 is #EachforEqual.

To celebrate IWD, we have put together the following beautiful infographic showcasing 10 inspirational women in microbiology. Our #OnThisDay volunteer team researched the list of scientists, and our Journal Social Media Editor, Maja Rischer, did the graphic design work to produce the final infographic. A huge thanks to all involved in putting this together!
