A symposium was held to honor the memory of our late academy member Josep (Pep(e)) Casadesús, held on 24 February 2023 in Seville. This symposium focused on the current topics in bacterial genetics and how Pepe’s legacy has influenced this field. Our academy supported this symposiums’ organization and several members attended in-person.

The symposium was a fitting tribute to Pepe and his contributions to the field of bacterial genetics. It provided an opportunity for his colleagues and friends to come together, celebrate his life, and remember the impact he had on the academy and the wider community. 

During the symposium EAM Board Member Jay Hinton, gave a 30-minute presentation of the European Academy of Microbiology, in which Pepe was a member since 2019.
