The FEMS Summer School for Postdocs - FEMS

The FEMS Summer School for Postdocs

27-09-2019

This summer, the first ever FEMS Summer School for Postdocs took place during 28 August to 7 September, at the Mediterranean Institute of Life Sciences (MedILS) in Split, Croatia.

Students and mentors enjoy relaxed discussions in the beautiful grounds of MedILS, overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

Seventeen talented international postdocs, selected from a broad applicant pool, attended the excellent surroundings of MedILS. This year the topic of discussion was:

Bacterial Robustness: Evolution of Bacterial Resistance to Death

The school is intended to be a place where scientists of different backgrounds and career stages can exchange ideas and share their experience. It creates an environment where attendees can learn, network, ponder, and grow. All while enjoying a small respite from the ‘bureaucracy of science’ ubiquitous in their day-to-day work.

The school was aptly co-directed by Graham Walker (MIT) and Miroslav Radman (MedILS) and a range of mentors from across the world joined at various points to deliver specialist lectures and workshops.

The Summer School delivered on its promise in great style and with much substance. It facilitated a diverse range of interesting lectures and workshops, encouraged professional development, and provided space for free thinking and scientific dialogue.

A second FEMS Summer School for Postdocs is planned to take place in the Summer of 2020 at MedILS.
